and northeast. the latest track continues to take it up to eastern sections of canada. the wind now down to the upper 60s, below hurricane force. here we have the makings of a wonderful weekend. >>> thank you bob. even though earl's eye never made landfall in maryland. adam may shows us what it looked like when earl hit. >> reporter: ocean city was beared the brunt of the storm but dangerous water conditions continue in the resort town. at the height of the storm in ocean city, giant waves slammed into the beach. emergency patrol surfs battled. >> waves are the biggest i've ever seen. pretty eerie. >> reporter: dangerous rip tides prompted officials to prohibit swimming for the second day in a row. but some risked it any way. >> it's crazy, we've never experienced anything like this, the waves are nice. >> reporter: one man was even arrested for skinny dipping with hurricane earl. the hurricane became a tourist attraction to see waves like this. >> the waves are absolutely beautiful. >> reporter: hurricane earl could have damaged beach front business if it wasn't for a million dollars s

. right now the storm has started bearing down on canada. it's about 145 miles or so southwest of halifax, snow scotia after brushing parts of massachusetts overnight. the storm disrupted vacations this labor day weekend. its close skirt up the eastern seaboard was less intense than feared. the storm is still kicking up dangerous rip currents. we have nbc's kevin tibbles live in rock port, massachusetts. sunshine in the last hour. looks like sunshine how. you're having a good time it looks like. >> reporter: alex, earl we hardly new you. i don't think we got to meet you at all last night. it rained here a little bit, but nothing like the dire predictions that have been taking place all week with this cat 4 storm showing up here. earl turned out to be a bit of a wimp actually. it's a beautiful day in rock port. all the activities planned for the labor day weekend and were put on hold, everything is being put back on. if folks were headed out here and were a little scared of the weather forecast, my advice to you would be to hop into a car right now because it is a gorgeous day here in rock

of canada leaving in its wake its churned up beaches along maryland, delaware, and virginia and down into the outer banks. and of course, up around cape cod, too. they will be a little rip tide during the day today. so the high rip risk for dangerous rip currents. other than that, nice weather. pretty quiet. let's look at what's going on outside now. the sun is beginning to show up. we have generally clear skies. 72 at the inner harbor. humidity is down. barometer down but rising. the barometer is so far down because that hurricane is still nearby, relatively speaking. 600 miles away or something like that. temperatures in the yellows. they are right around the coastal areas and in the bay. pull further away, and you go to green. 70's, 60's. and then blue. 59 in frostberg. over the next couple mornings. some of these will be getting down into our area. we just adjusted the temperatures a little bit. annapolis 73. 66 at west minister. still in the 50 adds out west. -- 50's out to the west. here's the cool front. it is moving off shore now, moving all that humid air out and being repla

? >> earl is clearing new england and heading to the maritime provinces of canada. >> it has gotten over -- it was far enough off shore it was just a big squalor really for us. nearby in the mid-atlantic region, hatteras probably got the worst of it. it wasn't probably as bad as it could have been. in new england the storm has weakened. now, as as always happens behind a hurricane, you get excellent weather. here's the radar. h.d. doppler showing the eye of the storm. the radar is only seeng the wench half of the storm. the eastern half of the storm is too far away from the radar to pick up any echos. mostly up in the state of maine now. one good squalor line running through vermont and new hampshire and down into massachusetts. a couple showers along lake eerie, and that's associated with a cool front that went through. that's the next big thing. cooler air is coming in behind this. a cool front has cleared the area without rain behind this. we'll talk about a terrific holiday weekend. summer is on the way out. it is all coming up with the insta-weather plus forecast. >> earl has come a

of sunshine with no rain nearby. the closest rain is up in maine and canada. here is a look at the hd doppler radar. sunshine as far south as our area. tropical storm earl moving up into canada. it is moving out of the picture. let's take a look at the large picture here. some rain in the gulf coast region where the air is more tropical. a few showers in montana. that is it. very quiet weather except for the northeastern corner of the u.s. let's look at the sunshine. a beautiful morning. 72 but the airport and 74 at the inner harbor. the humidity is way down at 43% which will make this nice. perfect weather for the labor day weekend. i almost did not want to see summer going away. the barometer is low but rising that earl's leaving. finally we can get the barometer of there. west winds are picking up 12-24 miles per hour. today would be the 12th in a row that we have not had significant rain. yesterday we had a trace of right which was an outer band of earl along the western shore of the day. if has been 12 days without any significant rain. we have a deficit for the month of about 0.3 inch.

to canada. blasting nova scotia when it came ashore this morning, offering a finishing kick to this largely oversold storm. by contrast, along the u.s. atlantic coast, the sigh of relief at earl's weakness seemed almost as powerful as the hurricane's winds. >> i was really happy that nothing bad happened. >> reporter: on cape hatteras, earl's first target, they reopened a bridge to the north carolina mainland anda the tourists resurfaced. in rhode island, a big surf was the only remnant of the storm. there was some beach erosion on long island, but the damage was light compared to the drum roll of predictions. >> a team of reporters and meter olses will bring you live coverage over the next hour and a half. >> reporter: trees were felled in nantucket, but looking at the beaches and shoppers, the scene did not resemble the state of emergency the massachusetts governor declared just hours ago. >> i was thrilled, you know. the sun was out and shining. people are walking around town. >> reporter: indeed, the federal emergency management team said no states had even asked for assistance. this si
